Thanksgiving recipe – Giving at its best!
Visiting family and friends? Bring your best Thanksgiving recipe to blow them away! As you know, being a hostess comes with many preparations like cleaning the house, meal preparation, buying the food, the presentation and theme of the table and making sure that all of your guests on the list are still coming to your dinner. One of my favorite thanksgiving recipe’s is one of our family’s favorites. Captain Russell’s Sweet Potato Casserole is my son’s favorite dish. He would smack his lips with mouth watering waiting for momma to give him a spoonful. Priceless. We have no idea where the name came from but we do know that we love it.
Thanksgiving recipes are family traditions that we know to come and love. The expectations of turkey, filling, and the fixin’s Give this side dish a whirl. I promise this will make them clamor for more! . It’s creamy, sinfully rich with a bit of sweet and a surprising crunch. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. This Thanksgiving recipe is a “go to” to take along. It will be the hit of the meal. This meal can be made a head 1-2 days if necessary however; their is no guarantee that the topping will still be on it for the next day meal.
Captain Russel’s Sweet Potato Casserole

1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup melted butter
Grease the sides of the casserole dish with butter.
Mix – all of the above ingredients together and blend with blender like mashed potatoes. Taste it for creaminess or just because you are curious.
Once mixed pour into the greased casserole dish.
Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour mix these together until fine.
Add 1 cup of chopped walnuts, 1/2 cup melted stick of butter.
Sprinkle over the top of the casserole.
Bake 30 minutes.
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene). They are also a very good source of vitamin C, manganese, copper, pantothenic acid and vitamin B6. Additionally, they are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, niacin, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and phosphorus.
Google search says: The high amount of dietary fiber, the low calorie content, and the high amount of water, all work together to make sweet potatoes a great food if you are trying to lose weight. One of the main ways that sweet potatoes can help you lose weight is due to their high amount of dietary fiber. … Next, fiber is slow digesting. Each sweet potato runs about 100 calories vs the white potato 400-500.
High water content helps fill your stomach therefore preventing you from over eating on the holidays. Between the high fiber and the water content, this is one great addition to the weight loss food list. No guilt here.
