Gel manicures help grow flimsy nails

Gel manicures have proven they help support and protect flimsy nails. For about 20 years I’ve worn acrylic nails and was very happy with the way they looked till I received a green shade of fungus as a result of being in and out of water. Being a hairstylist working in water, hair color, bleaching processes and general rough handling of my nails they take a beating daily.

For many years, my nails were great until about a year ago, I had removed all of the acrylic and decided to go with the natural nail. I had avoided  touching anything. The nail beds were so thin and fragile. It hurt to touch any object after the removal. After about a month they started to be more normal, however; the appearance of the nails were a far cry from what I was used to. My nails were brittle, dry and you could see the drill smiles in the nail bed. One of my nails actually had ripped on the corner. The nail was so flimsy that it would bend backwards. I was really concerned that having acrylics on for so many years may have damaged my actual nail beds that I may not have been able to grow my nails out.

Hair color stained them because they were so porous and  looked like I was dragging my fingers through the dirt. Professionally speaking, a well shaped shorter squared off nail makes nails more polished looking. The nails are more proportionally shaped to enhance my hands.

Working in a salon with girls that look take good care of their nails and skin, can make a girl feel like she needs to step up her game in changing my nail appearance. In the spa department of Indulge Salon, York, Pa, the spa staff looked professional working with their clients.

When I first met Alex, I was impressed with her smile, intelligence and attitude towards others. She came to us via taking a break from college in center city Philadelphia to York, County taking a position as a front desk coordinator which means that she is a liason with customers to the stylists. She scheduled appointments, waved her magic want to squeeze in our VIP customers and overall helped make sure East Market Street ran efficiently while she was on the schedule.

What does it take to achieve your dreams? Desire, Passion and good ole’ fashion goal setting determination! Those are the attributes that our newest talented stylist, Alex Thibodeau has achieved at Indulge Salon.

Over time hanging out with the creative stylists we have, she caught the beauty bug. One day, she called me and said that she signed up for Empire Beauty School. I said ok. I felt like I was pregnant waiting for her to give birth to the beauty school license. 9 – 10 months later our beaming stylist has emerged. Yay! We are very proud of her that she has set her sights on becoming a stylist. She had a dream and has achieved it July 13, 2016.

One of the staff members mentions on a daily basis “It’s my birthday!” We frantically check our schedules to see if we were off and are relieved that we didn’t forget her birthday. Casually we remind her

that her birthday is in August. I bet when she is older she will be doing the same thing. When I mean older, we mean 80’s or 90’s. By then she can have her birthday everyday if she wants.

My point is that everyday is someone’s birthday. We never made a birthday in our house a big deal when I was little yet I secretly wanted a birthday party. Last year, my staff surprised me with a birthday party at the salon with friends, clients, staff and family. I was shocked and they were too because they sneakily had this planned with my nurses at the house , the rest of the team, my family whom had either driven in or flown in to be part of the surprise. Let’s just say when I arrived that I was in the middle of my intense work day from home and I wasn’t looking cute like I do for work at the salon. My hair wasn’t done, my makeup wasn’t done, I was still in my pj’s with zero undergarments. I mean I was up early trying to get my day underway. I certainly didn’t think I was to be arriving at my own birthday party.

              Surprise birthday party!

One of my team members, Chasta Strouse came over to pick up some things and asked if I was getting a shower? Odd that she would ask me about that but I blew if off and then I received an emergency call to come to the salon which of course I did. It was great! I did keep my coat on because  you know why!

The point is a birthday party makes you feel the love from family and friends. I never expected anything. They had beverages, cake with lots of icing, presents, and just lots of hugs. It was a great birthday.

The best birthday gifts are those that really mean something to the person that is receiving. My grandmother always gave me gifts that she would like herself.
